Poetry:

After the Scar – originally published in Motherverse Issue 6

Round as a pod,
that a fingernail could split me open.
I have a seam-
a scar so neatly stitched-
where once numbed and gutted
I proved my own inadequacy.

Would that this time
I can rise as Isis.

I will not be sacrificed
again on a green vinyl altar
under a myriad false suns.

Render unto Caesar
the method of his
own aborted birth.

I will not take his coin.
