Yay, first time sighting in my garden – two black collared barbets on the power line.
I heard their call first and went to investigate. Watched them shouting at each other for a while before they flew off. Also got a clear view of our local grey loerie, who normally hides in the trees. It gave me a look, as if deciding whether it was worth yelling “Go Away!” at me, but then decided that grooming was more important.
This will be one of the things I’ll miss about SA – birds. That’s kinda sad, really.
What made me realise that I was in a different country when I went to England was waking up the first morning and all the bird songs were strange and new.
Hmm. I really should keep a list of all the birds I’ve seen this year.
